Kelly Post Boys Lacrosse

Kelly Post Lacrosse has been a cornerstone of youth lacrosse in Baltimore for generations, building players, friendships, and community pride. From brand-new athletes picking up a stick to experienced players seeking greater competition, Kelly Post offers a pathway for every child to learn, grow, and love the game.

Our mission is simple: create an environment where kids build skills, confidence, and character through lacrosse — and have a whole lot of fun along the way. That’s why we offer multiple levels of play, giving families options to find the right balance of fun, development, and competition for their player.

Rec In-House

In-House lacrosse keeps the game close to home — literally. Teams practice and compete against other Kelly Post teams, giving players the chance to learn the game, gain confidence, and have fun in a supportive, community-first setting.

New this year: we’re introducing a “+” program to help bridge the gap between Rec In-House and Inter-League (Travel) play. Our “+” teams offer an end-of-season tournament with the second weekly practice while keeping the same fun, community-centered approach that defines Kelly Post.

Available for: Boys Pre-K to 4th grade

Age Groups: KP Tiny, Ducks, Tyker, Tyker+, Lightning, Lightning+

Rec Inter-League

Our Rec Inter-League teams play against other local councils in the Maryland Youth Lacrosse Association (MYLA). Players do not participate in In-House.

Evaluations in January help us form balanced teams (when multiple teams exist in an age group) and determine the appropriate MYLA division — A, B, or C — to ensure the best level of competition and overall experience for each team.

When there is also a Rec In-House option for an age group, Rec Inter-League teams are typically geared toward players and families seeking more practices, more games, and a higher level of play — without the year-round commitment of Club.

Available for: Boys 1st to 8th grade

Age Groups: Tyker (Travel), Lightning (Travel), Mids, Juniors

Commitment: Spring season

Club

Club is the highest level of play within Kelly Post. These teams are more competitive, with additional practices, tournaments, and higher-level instruction. Players commit to a greater time investment than Rec, but still remain part of the Kelly Post community. Tryouts are required.

Available for: Boys 3rd to 8th grade

Teams: 2035, 2034, 2033, 2032, 2031, 2030

Commitment: Year-round

*We recognize that BCPS has an extended Spring Break this year and have chosen to forgo games on Easter Weekend only. Games will proceed the weekend of April 11 to ensure players enjoy a full season of lacrosse. Makeup games can be scheduled as necessary for teams that will be unable to roster that weekend.

Practice / Game Locations

Dumbarton Middle School (300 Dumbarton Rd, Baltimore, MD 21212) has been reinstated as the “home field” for our Rec In-House teams (KP Tiny, Ducks, Tyker, Lightning).

We anticipate that practices and games will be held there, pending field allocation from Baltimore County this winter. Should field availability be an issue, we’ll assign the closest available fields (such as Forge Park) to keep families as close to Dumbarton (and home!) as possible.

Our Rec Inter-League teams will continue to practice and play at Meadowood Regional Park (10650 Falls Rd, Timonium, MD 21093). Travel for away games is based on MYLA division registration but typically includes as far north as Bel Air and Hereford and as far west as Catonsville and Howard County as examples.

Families interested in Tyker Travel or Lightning Travel should opt-in by January 1 to allow time for evaluations, team placements, and MYLA registration.

February 1 | + Opt-In Deadline
Families interested in either Tyker+ or Lightning+ — which bridges In-House and Travel with an added practice and end-of-season tournament — should opt in by February 1 so we can build balanced teams and coordinate schedules.

February 15 | Registration Closes
Final day to register for all Kelly Post Boys programs. This ensures time to finalize rosters, create schedules, and get ready for the season.

March 1 | Team Assignments Released
Players and families receive their team placements and season details.

March 9 | Season Begins
Practices and games officially kick off for our In-House and Rec Inter-League teams.

April 11 | KP Tiny Starts
The KP Tiny season kicks off a little later than the rest to make sure our youngest players enjoy warmer weather and plenty of sunshine for their first lacrosse experience.

May 30 | End-of-Season Celebration
We're thrilled to formalize our end-of-season celebration with KP Fest, a full day of games, awards, and fun activities to celebrate a great Kelly Post Lacrosse season!

+ Program, Travel, and Club Info Sessions

As players grow, many families begin exploring additional opportunities beyond In-House.

To help guide that decision, we will host virtual information sessions for those who are interested in learning more about our +, Travel, and Club programs. These sessions give families a chance to learn more about each pathway — from time commitment and expectations to skill development and competition level — and to ask any questions before making a decision.

Families can indicate their interest in these programs during registration. This will generate an invitation to attend a session. Available sessions include:

After attending, players can officially confirm (or decline) participation. The deadline to opt to Tyker Travel and Lightning Travel is January 1, though we may be able to accommodate requests through February, pending roster availability. Dual Sport Athletes

We strongly encourage dual-sport athletes and believe in the benefits of playing multiple sports. Lacrosse builds speed, agility, and stick skills, while sports like baseball, basketball, and soccer develop complementary abilities—creating well-rounded athletes and reducing burnout.

For 2026, we’ve simplified our lacrosse schedule and are coordinating with TRC Baseball to avoid conflicts, making it easier for kids to enjoy both sports without compromise. Our goal: help athletes grow, compete, and have fun in the sports they love.

Equipment

All players must provide their own equipment.

For our KP Tiny and Ducks program, a standard-sized lacrosse stick is required — no fiddlesticks allowed. Sticks are no longer included in Ducks registration to give families the flexibility to choose the right stick for their player and to help keep registration costs lower. For convenience, Kelly Post will offer approved sticks for purchase this winter through select partner vendors for those interested.

Full equipment is required for Tyker, Lightning, Mids and Juniors. This includes:

NOCSAE specification and SEI certified helmet
Mouth guard (cannot be clear or white)
NOCSAE compliant shoulder pads
Arm pads
Gloves
Boy’s stick
Protective cup (suggested for field players, required for goalies)

Goalie Equipment
There are goalies in these older age groups, and this position requires additional protective gear. Kelly Post provides goalie equipment to teams, with the exception of the athletic cup, which must be supplied by the player.

Players who regularly play or wish to play goalie are welcome to use their own equipment, provided it meets current USA Lacrosse safety standards.

Age Groups

Players are placed in divisions based on their age as of August 31, following MYLA guidelines. However, Kelly Post has expanded its age ranges to allow players with late or early birthdays to stay aligned with their classmates. Questions regarding? Email us.

Our youngest athletes get their first taste of lacrosse in a playful, engaging environment. KP Tiny focuses on movement, coordination, teamwork, and basic stick skills — all while fostering a love for the game. It’s the perfect introduction to lacrosse and sets the stage for growth into future programs. Soft lacrosse balls are used throughout the season to ensure a safe, fun introduction to the sport.

The KP Tiny season is 8 weeks to give our youngest players the best possible experience. By starting later in April, we avoid the colder, unpredictable early-spring weather and ensure kids are playing in warmer, more consistent conditions.

K + 1st Grade (Ducks)

5-6 year olds | DOB: 01/01/18 - 08/31/21

At the Ducks level, players are introduced to the basics of lacrosse in a fun, supportive environment. No equipment is required — just a stick and a willingness to learn. Families can choose Ducks as an introduction to lacrosse, or for 1st graders, progress to Tyker for the full pads experience.

Ducks | Rec In-House

At the Ducks level, players begin learning the fundamentals of lacrosse while building confidence and having fun with friends without equipment. The focus is on teamwork, sportsmanship, and fostering a love for the game. Games are played exclusively against other Kelly Post teams — perfect for first-time players or as a stepping stone to Tyker the following season. Soft lacrosse balls are used throughout the season to ensure a safe, fun introduction to the sport.

The Tyker level is where players transition into full pads for the first time, experiencing the game in its true form. As part of our Rec In-House program, kids build fundamental skills while competing in a fun, supportive environment against other Kelly Post teams. Tyker Travel

Tyker Travel | Rec Inter-League

Tyker Travel gives players the opportunity to compete outside of Kelly Post, facing teams from other local recreation councils in the Maryland Youth Lacrosse Association (MYLA).

Players in this division do not participate in In-House; instead, they compete exclusively in inter-league play. Evaluations in late January / early February are mandatory for all Travel players to help ensure balanced teams (when multiple teams exist in an age group) and appropriate MYLA division placement — A, B, or C — to ensure the best level of competition and overall experience.

The Travel commitment includes a second weekly practice and participation in the LaxSplash Tournament (May 30–31, 2026).

Players must first register for the Tyker program to be eligible for Tyker Travel. Interest can be indicated during registration. Families will be invited to attend one of our virtual information sessions this winter, after which players can officially confirm (or decline) participation. The deadline to opt in to Travel is January 1, though we may be able to accommodate requests through February, pending roster availability.

Cost: $250 / player
Your $167 Tyker registration will be credited toward this total, with the additional $83 processed at the time of your formal Tyker Travel commitment. This fee covers MYLA league participation, tournament registration, and premium uniform costs.

3rd + 4th Grade (Lightning)

At the Lightning level, players advance their skills and deepen their understanding of game strategy while competing in a faster-paced environment. Families can choose the core Rec In-House experience, the [NEW] Lightning+ option with a second weekly practice and participation in an end-of-season tournament, or Lightning Travel (Rec Inter-League) for players ready to face other local recreation councils through MYLA competition.

Both paths provide the opportunity for players to grow and prepare for middle school and beyond.

Mids

Club (2033, 2032)

These grade-specific teams (2033, 2032) are tryout-based and designed for players who want to compete at the highest levels. Club offers advanced coaching, year-round training, and competition against elite regional and national teams, helping athletes elevate their skills, lacrosse IQ, and prepare for high school and beyond.

7th + 8th Grade (Junior)

12-14 year olds | DOB: 9/1/11-8/31/13

At the Junior level, players develop advanced skills, teamwork, and leadership that prepare them for high school lacrosse. Families can choose Rec Inter-League for competitive MYLA play, or Club, which offers the most practices, competition, and preparation for future lacrosse opportunities. Both options give players a chance to elevate their game while enjoying the Kelly Post experience.

Junior

Junior | Rec Inter-League

At the Junior level, players refine their skills and lacrosse IQ while competing in a full-field game with full checking. This division is designed to prepare athletes for the transition to high school lacrosse, with a focus on advanced fundamentals, teamwork, and competitive play.
